Western Energy Freedom Association
Western Energy Freedom Association (WEFA) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization working in coordination with customers and other stakeholders to provide education on the merits of capturing greater affordability and reliability through greater western regional grid integration.
The current state of the western electric grid is fragmented and inefficient. Each region of the West generally operates within its own silo with limited resources and generation capacity. This fragmented approach impacts reliability, increases energy costs during extreme weather events, and results in major inefficiencies in the deployment of the West’s abundant energy resources.
Established separately from Western Freedom, a 501c(4) advancing low-cost electricity and energy freedom throughout the region, WEFA’s main goal is to ensure that utilities and decision makers have adequate information regarding grid integration to make informed decisions that benefit not only their region, but the entirety of the West. We will accomplish this in the following ways:
Convener and Coordinator: building trust and collaboration amongst key stakeholders from diverse sectors through convenings and regular communication
Ensuring Access and Trust: Developing and continuing strong relationships with western stakeholders on both sides of the aisle
Balancing Interests: Collaborating between entities with sometimes competing interests to drive feasible solutions that facilitate regionalization
Identifying Gaps: Preventing duplication among the entities working on regional markets and understanding where our voice matters and where another messenger may be more effective.
